Beauty Boss Pout of order! It’s perfectly easy to achieve fuller lips, naturally

- You don’t need to undergo a cosmetic procedure to have plumped lips, says Joy Howieson, of Project Lip As told to Tracey Bryce

We all strive to achieve the perfect pout. With plumped lips on trend, many people are turning to lip fillers and injections.

Joy Howieson, founder and CEO of Project Lip, started her career as a make-up artist for MAC cosmetics at Selfridges where she was trained by industry specialists and noticed a demand from clients asking for fuller lips using make-up and a matte finish.

But it wasn’t until after recovering from a life-threatening illness that she decided to bring her idea to life. Starting with the Matte Plumping Primer, Project Lip has taken the lead in the non-cosmetic procedure market.

Here, Joy gives her top tips on plumping that pout in the most natural way...

Exfoliate your lips

“I know most of us will want a plumper pout before reaching for those pillar box reds, burgundy and chocolate lipstick shades,” Joy said.

“A lip scrub will gently buff away the build-up of dead skin cells from dry and chapped lips to restore your lips to a more hydrated state.

“Exfoliating increases the circulation in your lips, making lips softer and plumper.”

Boost collagen

“Collagen is naturally occurring and keeps your skin firm, smooth, and full of volume but as we age the rate at which you produce collagen plummets,” said Joy. “Use lip products, such as the Project Lip-lip mask, that contain collagen-boosting and nourishing ingredients to keep your lips hydrated, smooth and visibly plumper.”

Reach for lip liner

“Using the lip liner, draw a cross on the top of your Cupid’s bow then gently glide over your natural lip line, the aim is to create shadows in the edges of your lips and define your cupids bow to make them appear fuller.

“After lining your lips dab highlighter on your Cupid’s bow, to open up your lips and makes them look larger. Finish with your chosen lipstick or coloured balm to fill in your entire lips.”

For the most natural look aim for a colour close to your natural lip colour.

Use a lip plumper

“Lip plumping glosses and primers, such as the Matte Lip Plumping Primer from Project Lip, deliver a tingling sensation and stimulate blood flow that causes the lip to slightly swell for fuller lips,” Joy explained.

“The lip primer is infused with nourishing, hydrating ingredients that replenish vital moisture and provide the perfect base for other lip products. Cosmetic plumpers can come in a variety of shades to apply straight to the lip or clear that can be used over lipstick or on bare lips.”
