COVE RANGERS 4

ALBION ROVERS 1

Cove Rangers manager Paul Hartley was happy with the outcome following progression to the quarter-finals of the SPFL Trophy with a 4-1 win over Albion Rovers which included a 12-minute flurry of goals.
“Ultimately it’s about progression and cup competitions are about going through and we have to be happy with that,” he said.
“Rory Mcallister is doing very well just now, and strikers breed off confidence.
“And it was also pleasing to see Mitch Megginson on the score sheet.
“Strikers are there to score goals and they certainly contributed to the win for us.
“Our game plan was to stretch the game and we did that.
“I was pleased with the second half performance.
“It was important that we were professional, we scored some quality goals, especially in the final period of the game with Rory and Mitch making that difference that we know they are capable of.”
Mitch Megginson started the goal rush for Cove Rangers on 79 minutes, getting on the end of a Rory Mcallister cutback and making no mistake from eight yards.
Two Ola Adeyemo assists were instrumental to Paul Hartley’s side extending their lead.
Goal number two arrived on 82 minutes with Adeyemo’s corner finding Mcallister, who guided home with ease past Cameron Binnie before the former
Dundee United striker found Jamie Masson whose glancing header made it 3-0.
Megginson and Mcallister linked up again for the latter to make it 4-0 with Mcallister twisting and turning before finding the far left corner with ease.
Albion Rovers would get a mere consolation through Max Wright just on the stroke of full-time.
Rovers manager Brian Reid said: “We were decent until the 79th minute. Goals change games and unfortunately Cove Rangers have the quality to turn a game on its head.
“We held our own for much of the game until Cove opened the scoring.”
Megginson said, “It’s been a while since I’ve scored so I am happy to get the goal but most importantly a win. I am also glad I have contributed to the team and the partnership with Rory is a positive one, which helps.”
