PENICUIK took over as leaders in the Premier League as TRANENT were held to a draw by DUNBAR in a local derby.

Matty Knox gave Tranent a first-half lead, but Dunbar hit back through Andy Jones five minutes from the break. An own goal after 57 minutes restored Tranent’s lead, but a determined home side levelled when Jones scored again in 73 minutes.

Penicuik found WHITEHILL WELFARE difficult to break down and it took them an hour to make the breakthrough with a goal from Robbie Neave. The visitors crumbled in the latter stages, with Nicky Reid adding another two and Cammy Dawson also netted.

LINLITHGOW ROSE played the last 25 minutes with 10 men, but held out for a 2-1 victory over BLACKBURN. Alan Docherty netted the opener for Rose in four minutes and, despite having Dean Shaw sent off, Mark Stowe netted a second in 80 minutes, with Blackburn’s goal coming just two minutes from time.

NEWTONGRANGE are still looking for their first league win of the season after going down 1-0 to MUSSELBURGH in their local derby. Dean Ballantyne scored the only goal of the game in 48 minutes and, to round off an unhappy day for the visitors, they had Liam Mcintosh red-carded.

CROSSGATES strolled to a 5-2 win at SAUCHIE. Cammy Muirhead opened the scoring in five minutes. Sauchie levelled through an own goal, but the Fifers replied immediately with a second from Scott Lawrie. They added another two through Mark Mckenzie and Muirhead before Mark Sharp pulled one back, but Lawrie netted a fifth for the visitors.

HADDINGTON ATHLETIC had a comfortable afternoon against TWEEDMOUTH, with the Conference A leaders running out 5-0 winners thanks to a Shaun Hill hat-trick and another from Jack Neilson plus an own goal.
