Every month it seems there’s a new beauty fad or trend waiting to be tried – and all that trial and error can mean a drawer full of unused products, not to mention an empty purse. Here, from applying cosmetics to removing unwanted hair, expert make-up artist Saffron Hughes shares her must-have tools that are worth every penny.
Brush cleaning mat
Saffron advises that keeping make-up brushes clean is your main priority for preventing breakouts and spreading germs.
She recommends investing in a handy cleansing mat.
“Before brush cleaning mats, I would stand in front of the sink for hours, swirling dirty brushes in the palms of my hands,” she explained.“so, while brush cleaning mats aren’t new to the market, they are a must-have.
“The different textures are designed to deep clean both face and eye brushes, and they feature suction cups for secure placement on any sink, cutting the process of washing your make-up brushes by half.”
Beauty blender
It’s arguably just a fancy sponge, so can the egg-shaped beauty blender really be worth the extra spend? Saffron says it’s one of the only tools you need in your beauty bag.
She said:“the base of the sponge can be used to apply foundation to create an airbrushed finish, the sides blend contour and blush, while the tip is perfect for spot concealing or applying powder underneath the eyes.
“Just be sure to air-dry your beauty blender after use to avoid mould spores forming, causing your investment to go down the drain.”
Facial roller
Saffron said:“facial rollers help circulate blood flow, reducing puffiness and promoting lymphatic drainage.
“For the best results, cleanse your skin then use a jade roller to apply a sheet mask, using circular motions to help the ingredients seep into the skin.
“Take off the sheet mask, then use upward motions to stimulate the lymph nodes, draining fluids and toxins.”
Eyelash curler
