Ex Celtic boss pays more than £3m for palatial Scots home

-

Former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has bought one of Scotland’s most palatial homes.

The Leicester City manager paid more than £3 million for the prestigious property in the summer after viewing the house. One property market expert, who is familiar with the home, said: “It is certainly one of the finest private houses in Scotland, in my opinion. It is a beautiful property, spectacular.”

Rodgers has been tipped to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United. He dismissed the speculation as “disrespectful” last week after reports claimed he was house hunting in nearby Cheshire. He declined to comment on the Scots purchase yesterday and his plans for his new home are unclear.

Last week, reports suggested that Rodgers, 48, was looking for a home in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, which are popular with footballers, prompting renewed speculation that he might be taking over at Old Trafford. However, at a press conference, Rodgers flatly dismissed the speculation, saying: “Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when there is a manager in place – a good manager and a good man – who’s working at the club.

“And secondly, I can’t really comment on it because it’s something that’s not real. I’m here as the Leicester City manager; proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club and the ownership.”

Rodgers, 48, managed Celtic from 2016 until February 2019, when he moved to Leicester.

He is particularly concerned about security after wife Charlotte, now 37, and stepdaughter Lola, 8, suffered a terrifying experience two years ago when their £1.6m Bearsden home was broken into as they slept. Rodgers was away in England at the time.

Charlotte met Rodgers while she was working as Liverpool FC travel coordinator when he was manager of the club between 2012 and 2015. They married in 2017 after he proposed in New York.

When Rodgers first arrived in Scotland, he hailed the warmth of the welcome he received saying that not just Celtic supporters, but also Rangers fans would stop him to thank him for coming to Scotland.

The global pandemic has seen surging demand for properties at every level of the market. House prices increased by 13.2% in Scotland over the past 12 months – the highest rate of all the UK nations, according to analysis last week. Thirty of the 32 council areas saw rising prices with the average house price now standing at £212,832.

According to Zoopla, three of the five most expensive streets in Scotland are in Edinburgh with the other two in Auchterarder. An average home in the most expensive, the capital’s Whitehouse Terrace, sells for around £3,428,628.

The property firm’s analysis revealed 11,673 UK streets where the average property value is £1m or more. The 10 most

expensive are in London.
