Goal-denbhoy Forresttargets medalno. 20

- By Brian Fowlie

James Forrest is desperate to take his medal haul into the roaring twenties.

The Celtic winger came off the bench to grab the goal that beat St Johnstone and send his side into the League Cup Final on December 19.

Forrest has already won 19 major honours, but there’s no danger of the 30-year-old resting on his laurels.

He said: “It’s always good when people tell you about what you’ve done in the past. But I am still playing in the now.

“So I want to keep adding to it. I’ve been out for while with injury. But you put the work in to get back for days like this.

“Was this a chance to show we are back? Definitely.

“Last season was the first in I don’t know how long we didn’t win a trophy.

“For everyone, especially the boys who have come in and haven’t played in a Final before, it’s great we have that to look forward to.”

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is delighted to see Forrest back fit and making a difference.

Now he wants the team to claim the first trophy of his Parkhead reign.

He said: “I’m determined to come back and win the trophy.

“I have a vision of how I want to play football and build a team. But I knew the measure would be how quickly I can bring success to Celtic.

“I’m not going to get two or three years to do that.

“Now, I have an opportunity in the final and that has to be our aim.”

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson remained upbeat despite his team losing their grip on the League Cup.

He said: “I’m very proud. They have defended their trophy with a lot of pride and it’s credit to them that we are disappointed at losing a semi-final to Celtic.”
