Viera lauds‘crazy good game’ after Turf Moor thriller

-

Patrick Vieira could only chuckle at what he called a “crazy good game” after Crystal Palace side took a point from a thrilling 3-3 draw at Burnley.

Palace led, then trailed, then led again a fivegoal first half, but after Maxwel Cornet levelled with a stunning volley early in the second half, Burnley were unlucky not to win it with Matej Vydra bringing a fine save out of Vicente Guaita with the last kick of the game.

It was a result that pleased both managers. Burnley remain in the bottom three, but have put their early- season woes behind them, while Palace are unbeaten in seven now.

Few would have arrived at Turf Moor expecting a goal- fest, but that is what they got – Christian Benteke scored twice, either side of headers from Ben Mee and Chris Wood for Burnley, before Marc Guehi gave Palace a half-time lead.

“It was a crazy good game,” said Vieira. “Both teams maybe brought a different philosophy to the game, but both tried to win it. For the neutral it was a good game.

“At the end there is a good feeling because of the save, that was the biggest chance they created in the second half and it was an important save from Vince to allow us to go back to London with a point.”

Dean Smith called on Norwich and their fans to turn Carrow Road into a fortress after they secured a second league success of the season with a 2- 1 win over Southampton.

Go a l s f rom Teemu Pukki and captain Grant Ha n l e y on his 30th birthday undid Che Adams’ early effort and saw the Canaries make it back-to-back triumphs.

Norwich remain in the bottom three, but have moved off the bottom.

“Winning two on the spin is hard to do and coming from behind is hard to do, so this should build on the belief gained from the Brentford game,” said Smith, having only been appointed last Monday.

“Home form is key. We know how hard the Premier League is and when you have home advantage and the supporters behind you, like they were today, it is really important.

“We want to make this a tough place to come, win, lose or draw. Whenever a team leaves, they have to say this was a tough place to come.

“Southampton will say that. They were at a good level in first half but we improved and deserved to win.”

West Ham boss David Moyes said his team had been “not quite on it” after their winning run came to a end with a 1- 0 loss at Wolves.

Having entered the contest a t Mo l i n e u x looking for a fifth successive league victory, the Ha m m e r s w e r e undone as Raul Jimenez struck what proved to be the only goal in the 58th minute.

Moyes said: “I think Wolves are a good team. I don’t think we were quite at it today.

“The game was very close, but that is what they a re like in the Premier League. They were just not quite there today to be honest, not quite on it.”
