Cammy Devlin has only been with Hearts in Scottish football for six months but he’s already doing all he can to have a long and successful career.

And there’s no finer role model for that than Craig Gordon.

That’s why a 23- year- old midfielder has been taking advice from the Jambos’ 38-year-old goalie.

Devlin said: “We are so lucky to have him in our goal. He gives us that extra bit of confidence, knowing that we have someone of his calibre doing what he’s doing.

“It’s not only for our team but also when puts on a Scotland jersey. It’s remarkable, really.

“He’s had a long career at the highest level and that’s something I would love to do.

“I’ve been picking his brain about what he does because he’s outstanding and he saves us so many goals all the time.

“There was one moment against Celtic on Thursday night when he made a good save, and I told him I was going to give him a hug and a kiss after the game!

“We have just got to change it at the other end of the pitch and we are all going to try to contribute to that. But having Craig Gordon is a massive bonus for the club.”

The Australian Under- 23 internationalist is pleased with the impact he has been able to make on Hearts’ first team since arriving from Newcastle Jets in July.

It’s not always easy to come to a new country and a new league, plenty of players have struggled in the first months.

Devlin, however, has been a big part of Hearts’ climb towards the top of the table.

He went on: “I’m really grateful for the opportunity to come to this club and I’ve been fortunate to be thrown in straight away.

“I’ve started 10 games in a row now, which is unreal, and I feel I’ve done quite well.

“I’m feeling a lot better than I’ve done and that just comes with hard work and repetition.

“I keep trying to add things to my game and do the things I do well even better.

“As long as we win, I’m a happy man.”

Hearts are looking to bounce back from the midweek defeat at Celtic with a victory at Livingston today.

That won’t be easy, the West Lothian men have had an up- and- down start to the season but are never brushed aside.

Devlin said: “From playing in front of 60,000 at one of the biggest stadiums in

the country to going away to Livingston on artificial turf – it’s a completely different game.

“We might have a lot of the more ball but it will be more of a battle at times and that’s something we need to be up for.

“We have had a couple of days to regroup and it’s really important that we come home with three points to get the ball rolling again.

“If you want to be up the top of the league come the end of the season, which is where we definitely feel we should be, winning your away games or getting results in them is crucial.

“We stayed in the game for long periods against Celtic.

“The boys stepped up and everyone individually had great performances and worked hard as a team together.

“We deserved something from the game but now we have another chance.

“Our home form is unreal and playing at home is a lot more comfortable. But the away fixtures are tougher.

“They’re the ones we need to be more focused and concentrated for.

“It’s important we get an away win, which we haven’t had for a while, and build on that.”
