HAMILTON ACCIES 1

Dunfermline manager John Hughes reckons referee David Munro guessed when he awarded Hamilton a match-winning penalty.

Munro pointed to the spot on the hour mark after he adjudged Pars captain Graham Dorrans to have handled Lewis Smith’s shot on the goaline.

After watching footage of the incident, Hughes was adamant Munro called it wrong as he insisted it hit Dorrans on the chest.

Munro then sent off Dorrans for the hand-ball and David Moyo dispatched the spot-kick to seal a huge win for Hamilton.

Hughes said: “To lose it in that manner was frustrating. I went to the referee and he said it was hand-ball. He’s let himself down, there.

“The ball hit Graham on his chest and the referee said it was hand-ball – so I don’t know what he is looking at.

“For the referee to give a penalty for that and say it hit his hand, he must have been guessing.

“We deserve a bit better than that.

“I spoke to him and he said, ‘ You’ve had the opportunity to look at it’. I said, ‘OK, but what were you looking at, thinking it was a handball? You’re making it up.’

“But I am honest enough to say Hamilton were the better team and we have a lot of work ahead of us.”

The Pars went close to opening the scoring after 38 minutes as Dorrans let fly from 25 yards and it deflected off an Accies defender, looped over goalkeeper Joe Hilton and smacked the crossbar.

The rebound came out to

Aaron Comrie but he sent his header wide.

Mihai Popescu was denied the opener after 59 minutes when his powerful header was blocked on the line by Dorrans.

From the resultant corner the big defender saw another header stopped on the line and then Smith followed up but his effort was blocked by the arm of Dorrans on the goalline.

Referee David Munro pointed to the spot and sent off Dorrans and from 12 yards Moyo confidently sent Fon Willians the wrong way.

Hamilton ended a six-game winless run as they held out for three vital points and head coach Stuart Taylor said: “We played really well and got the result and thankfully got a clean sheet. All the lads put a shift in.

“I asked them to be relentless and they were and we got the win. I’m over the moon for everyone to get the three points.”
