Stenny stalemate but still 15 points in front

-

Forfar’s first real shot on goal produced an equaliser, as a spreadeagled City defence gave space to Craig Thomson to crack in a low drive from outside the area on 31 minutes.

In the second half, Forfar keeper Marc Mccallum dealt with a bouncing Freddy Jeffreys shot, then produced a brilliant stop diving low to his left to palm away Michael Dangana’s curling effort.

Home sub Keith Bray had a shot deflected on to the top of the net, while, at the other end, Daniel Scally’s 30-yarder wasn’t far away for Forfar.

The closest to a second half goal came three minutes from time when Elgin’s Dingwall made space for a curling blast which cannoned off the left-hand post, denying the home side a late winner.

Tony Wallace opened the scoring for the home side on 24 minutes, converting from the spot after a handball in the penalty box.

Gallagher Lennon had an effort headed off the line shortly after as Sons, assisted in the first half by a strong wind, sought to extend their lead.

But the visitors ought to have levelled when the ball dropped for Neil Martyniuk in the box, only for his shot to miss the target.

The second half was scrappy, with chances hard to come by for either side, but Sons sealed it with seven minutes left as substitute Blair Malcolm posted his first goal for the club with a close-range finish after Finlay Gray played the ball across goal.

Genuine chances were few and far between in an edgy encounter, though the visitors did show signs of attacking intent when James Craigen saw his effort blocked in a crowded box. Then Brad Whyte sent an angled shot narrowly wide as The Spartans came to life again.

The Bully Wee took until the 25th minute to muster their first effort on goal, but Jordan Allan’s 20-yarder was comfortably taken by Blair Carswell.

Brian Kinnear was assured in dealing with a Jamie Dishington header as the action switched to the other end, before the home keeper kept the score blank with a smart stop to deny Marc Mcnulty.

Clyde should have broken the deadlock on the restart, but Craig Howie somehow headed over from point-blank range following Jaze Kabia’s corner.

Then Martin Rennie got on the end of another Kabia cross only to see his header rebound from a post.

At the other end, Cammy Russell sent a 25-yard free-kick just wide before Allan went close for Clyde with a volley that flew over.
