Bernadette Gormal set up an web page to keep supporters informed about how Melissa was getting on while serving her sentence.

Yesterday, Bernadette, from Kirkintilloch, who is the sister of Melissa’s dad William, visited Reid for the first time since she was released.

She said: “Melissa is settling back in well. I couldn’t wait to see her.”

The Support Melissa Reid Facebook page has been inundated with messages from well- wishers since Reid’s release last week.

Reid, 22, from Lenzie near Glasgow, was arrested with Michaella McCollum, of Co. Tyrone, after being caught with £ 1.5 million of cocaine at Lima airport in 2013.

The drug smuggling pair struck a plea deal for a reduced sentence of six years and eight months.

Reid, who was expelled from Peru under an early release scheme, arrived at G l a s g ow Airport last Wednesday and returned to the family home in Lenzie.

Airpor t bosses f aced criticism for giving Reid VIP treatment to avoid the waiting media.

They later said they put Reid in a van straight from the plane’s steps for health and safety reasons, fearing fellow passengers could be hurt in a media scrum.
