Meanwhile Germany forward Andre Schurrle insists the world champions are not looking beyond the task of beating Slovakia in their round of 16 Euro 2016 clash on Sunday.

Joachim Low’s side go into the contest as heavy favourites but lost to Slovakia in a warm-up game ahead of the European Championships and still have yet to hit top gear in the tournament.

A 2-0 win over Ukraine was followed by a draw with Poland and a narrow victory against Northern Ireland – while Slovakia qualified for the knockout stages after a goalless draw with England.

And Schurrle is refusing to look beyond the meeting with Slovakia in Lille.

“I obviously know the tournament schedule, but it’s not important right now,” he said.

“Because if we lose against Slovakia it becomes completely irrelevant against whom we might play next. Therefore we are only focused on our next game, which will be on Sunday in Lille.”

Schurrle’s game-time has been limited so far as Germany’s array of attacking players look to find the right formula to go further in the competition.

“Reaching the next round as a team stands above everything else,” he added. “We want to show everyone else that we have arrived at this tournament and that we are strong enough to reach the next round.”
