10 TOP TEAM-MATES

- DANNY STEWART

Gary Naysmith

ex-Everton and Scotland

NIGEL MARTYN I PLAYED with some great keepers, the likes of Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor. But I have never forgotten Nigel’s world-class display for Everton at Anfield.

KYLE WALKER

KYLE was only a kid when I was with him at Sheffield United but even then he was a Rolls Royce of a full-back, brilliant going forward.

DAVID WEIR

MY big pal for much of my career, with Hearts then Everton, David was a top drawer defender. He played past his 40th birthday, and was a remarkable professional.

ALAN STUBBS

THE biggest moaner I ever had as a team-mate but a terrific partner for David in central defence. Alan had an amazing left foot and was a real competitor.

GARY NAYSMITH

I WILL need to let others speak about what I was able to bring to the table as it is not something I was ever comfortable with.

GARY SPEED

GARY was a brilliant midfielder, who was as fit as a fiddle. He was all set to be an excellent manager and his passing was a hard one for all to take.

PAUL GASCOIGNE

I WAS a team-mate at Everton at the end of his career, but he would still do things that were out of this world.

MIKEL ARTETA

MIKEL was always technically very, very good and he had the drive to go along with it. You don’t become captain of Arsenal without that.

THOMAS GRAVESEN

WOULD put him in the top three I played alongside in terms of sheer ability. Let down only by an occasional lack of discipline.

DUNCAN FERGUSON

IT was a huge shame Big Dunc didn’t get more caps for Scotland. He was a force of nature capable of giving any defender a hard time.

WAYNE ROONEY

I’LL never forget the impact Wayne made when he joined Everton’s first-team training. He was only 16 but he was sensational. We all knew even then he’d be a huge star.
