Davie Gibson
Ex-Hibs, Leicester City, Aston Villa & Scotland.
GORDON BANKS
DIFFICULT to choose between Gordon and Peter Shilton – two of the very greatest keepers. I’ll go for the World Cup winner.
PETER RODRIGUES
A TOUGH, tenacious tackler who had the pace to beat an overlapping full-back. Remembered by most as Southampton’s FA Cup-winning captain in 1976.
DAVID NISH
ORIGINALLY a midfielder, he found his real position as a defender. Says it all that he became the youngest FA Cup Final captain when leading Leicester against Manchester City before he was 21 in 1969.
DAVE MACKAY
A TRUE great who inspired Hearts, Tottenham and Derby County to win major honours.
FRANK McLINTOCK
A TERRIFIC servant at Leicester, Frank then won the Double with Arsenal and was Footballer of the Year in 1971. He’d join Dave Mackay in any ‘Bravheeart’ XI.
JIM BAXTER
I SPENT six weeks with him in the British Army team and some of his confidence and arrogance rubbed off on me. I use his phrase “gie’s it” when coaching my 10-year-old grandson.
GORDON SMITH
THIS most elegant of wingers won the Scottish League title with Hibs, Hearts and Dundee. They don’t make them like Gordon any more.
DENIS LAW
I WAS always amazed how someone so lean and slim could be so dynamic in the penalty box. A real winner.
WILLIE BAULD
MY hero as a kid, I got to play with him in the Hearts-Hibs select that played Burnley in 1961. He could score goals but also knew when to set them up. Led to me hitting the only hat-trick of my career in a 7-4 defeat.
DAVIE GIBSON
HE wisnae bad! (One of Leicester’s most-skilful midfielders ever. Scored in both legs of the 1964 League Cup Final to give the club their first major honour).
MIKE STRINGFELLOW
COULD run like the wind and catch pigeons as he did it. They said my passes were brilliant – they were when he caught up with them out on the left wing.
