Woman killed after car hits tree

AN early- hours crash that killed a 47-year-old woman is being investigat­ed by police.

Emergency services we re called out to Wester Breich Road in West Calder, West Lothian, after a silver Citroen DS3 left the road and struck a tree at 1.10am yesterday. The woman died at the scene.

Sergeant Neil Inglis, of Police Scotland’s road policing unit, said: “The woman’s next of kin have been informed and our condolence­s are with them at this very difficult time.”

In a separate road crash, a 15-year-old girl was injured when she was knocked down in Inverness.

Police said the teenager was involved in a collision with a blue Volvo on Sir Walter Scott Drive, near the Inshes roundabout, at about 11pm on Friday.

She was taken to Raig more Hospital where her injuries were described as serious.

No one else was injured in the collision.
