Awesome Warriors stun French giants

-

Warriors’ Alex Dunbar tackles Racing’s legendary stand-off Dan Carter. the patient build-up – then scrum-half Ali Price burrowed through to plonk down the ball at the base of the post.

The simple kick by Russell opened up a 13-point gap, much to the irritation of the local fans.

Warriors suffered another lapse in concentration when they should have been turning up the tempo.

And again they were forced to scramble bravely in their own half to minimise the impact of giving away a series of penalties.

Tommy Seymour showed peak alertness to frantically clear the immediate danger with six men bearing down on him close to his own line.

Anxious Racing chiefs emptied their bench in a bid to inject fresh urgency and intent. A rucking offence by Carter then prompted long- range specialist Stuart Hogg to tee up a pot at goal from almost 60 metres but it drifted narrowly wide.

However, Russell was bang on with his next attempt – setting up a tension-packed final 15 minutes.

A team with the pedigree of Racing would never throw in the towel.

And the nerves began to jangle in the 73rd minute when Carter jinked in to give them fresh hope – adding the goal himself.

Racing clicked into full flow gear but somehow Glasgow found the sheer guts to stave them off and survive when it mattered most.

Their defence in the last few minutes was simply awesome.
