Amoo: ‘Only complacency canbeatCelts’

-

That’s the verdict of David Amoo, whose Partick Thistle became the latest team to fall to Brendan Rodgers’ undefeated league leaders on Friday night.

“It was tough for us because they are a very good side, comfortably better than any team we’ve played this season,” he said.

“There is obviously a big difference in them from last season. You can see Brendan Rodgers has made a huge impact.

“We played them three times last term but they are so much better now.

“They move the ball quicker and they are deadly in front of goal.

“They press so well off the ball and on it, they are so good. They know what every player is going to do.

“They’ve still got some tough games to play but it is possible they could go through the whole season unbeaten.

“They are on a different level to anyone else in Scotland so if they play with the right intensity and don’t get complacent, they could do it.”

Amoo rejects criticisms the Hoops have made the domestic game boring for fans this season through their dominance.

“It is not Celtic’s fault – they just turn up and do what they have to do,” he said.

“Other teams have to bridge the gap. They need to step up and compete.

“The rest have to catch up. Or at least make it harder for them.

“Motherwell showed there might be a vulnerability there.

“But Celtic still found a way to win.

“We play them again in just over a week. We have to be better on the ball at Parkhead.

“Going to Celtic is a different challenge but we play better away from home. So you never know.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City striker Kelecho Iheanacho has backed Patrick Roberts to join him in the first team squad when his loan spell with Celtic is over.

Roberts showed Pep Guardiola what he is capable of when smashing home a great goal in the clubs’ Champions League tie in midweek, a score later equalised by Iheanacho.

“It was great to see my mate Patrick and I thought he played very well and scored the goal.

“Before he went to Celtic he used to show us he is going to be one of the best players in the world so when he comes back he will be the same because he has the quality.”
