Players were never heading for The Bridge

-

Antonio Conte’s Premier League title-chasers had two bids rejected for Bhoys’ goalkeeper Craig Gordon before the transfer window slammed shut.

The Stamford Bridge billionaires were also linked with a £30-millionplus swoop for Moussa Dembele.

But Celtic’s assistant boss revealed he was not concerned that either player would leave – because Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell were in total control of the situation.

“We heard the news coming in about offers, but I was personally never worried,” said Davies.

“Things are pretty stable. Brendan and Peter were controlling that and there was no worry on my part that people would leave.

“Peter and Brendan discuss a situation like that when it occurs, when a bid comes in, as it did for Craig.

“Then a decision is made about the club’s approach, so Brendan can say in confidence that the player is not going.

“That’s good from the club and he didn’t go. That was strong.”

Brendan Rodgers has already set his sights on securing a new deal for Gordon.

But with three-and-ahalf years remaining on Dembele’s contract, there is no such pressure.

For Davies, the French striker’s response to being linked with Chelsea spoke volumes about his attitude since joining Celtic.

And Rodgers’ right-hand man believes Dembele’s dedication will ultimately take him to the very top of the game.

“Moussa’s an intelligent boy. He knows this is the best place for him,” he said.

“He loves it here and he’s got a real inner belief that he’s a top player and, if he wants that move, it will come at the right time for him.

“He doesn’t have to go chasing it, thinking that it might not come again. That’s a sign of the selfconfidence he has.

“He loves playing for Celtic and wants to stay and work and win things and develop.”

Another young star who loves playing for Celtic is Kieran Tierney.

The teenager has been immense since returning to the side following injury.

And Davies believes there is more to come.

“Kieran is tenacious. He’s had injuries, but he bounces back even stronger,” he said.

“He has got a lot of qualities and there is still development to come from Kieran.

“The manager has worked with some top left-backs and we’ve watched others so there are areas for KT to focus on.

“Hopefully he can keep developing here and progress into a world class player.”
