Title hopes despite Mane sinking Spurs

-

Sunderland boss David Moyes was left to rue a controversial opening goal after seeing Southampton romp to a 4- 0 victory at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats capitulated after going 1- 0 down on the half hour, losing comfortably to the EFL Cup finalists.

However, Moyes insisted that the opener, which appeared to go in off striker Manolo Gabbiadini’s arm, should not have been allowed by referee Paul Tierney. The Scot said: “The boy puts it in with his arm. It doesn’t touch anybody’s head, it just goes straight in off his arm. That shouldn’t have been given and it really changes the way it goes.”

Gabbiadini added a second, before Jason Denayer’s late own goal and a fourth in stoppage time from sub Shane Long completed a miserable afternoon for Sunderland.

Arsene Wenger refuted Ian Wr i g h t’s claims about his long- term future at Arsenal after his side claimed a 2-0 victory over Hull at the Emirates Stadium, thanks to an Alexis Sanchez brace.

Earlier in the week, Wright claimed that in a conversation with his former boss, Wenger admitted that his time at the club was ‘coming to an end’, but the Frenchman insisted he had been misinterpreted.

He said: “I don’t know what Ian Wright said. It was questions and answers. I could be tired because I get up early in the morning and I finish late at night, so I am tired, ye s. Bu t I d i d n’t g i ve any indication about my future.”

Gareth McAuley grabbed a late point for West Brom after goals from Sofiane Feghouli and Manuel Lanzini put West Ham in the driving following Nacer Chadli’s opener for the Baggies.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic said: “To end like this, conceding a late goal, is very frustrating.”
