Bhoys to keep foot on pedal, warns Dane

-

But the Hoops star fired a terrifying warning to anyone hoping they will take it easy in the aftermath, saying: “We will be relentless.”

The Bhoys can open up an incredible 36-point lead over rivals Rangers with victory in today’s Old Firm clash.

Second-placed Aberdeen are also a distant speck in Celtic’s rear-view mirror.

But Danish stopper Sviatchenko insists complacency will not creep into the Celts’ camp – even after their sixth consecutive Premiership crown is secured.

“Relentless is the word I would have used if you didn’t,” said Sviatchenko, when asked about the Bhoys’ approach between now and the end of the season.

“You just keep on having this focus. The next game is Sunday and it’s so important not to get into emotions, just keep our mindset.

“Keep facts and feelings separated in some way – that is what we are trying to do.

“So far I’ve not seen anything which suggests we‘ll be complacent or lacking in spirit in some way.”

The relative ease with which Celtic have gone about their business this season has delighted Sviatchenko.

But the 25-year-old expected much more from Rangers.

“It would have surprised me if you had told me we would be 33 points clear of them in March,” said the Dane.

“Especially with what we experienced last season when we played them at Hampden.

“It was different then. They were on a really high level.

“33 points is a massive gap and I did expect a stronger challenge personally, but that’s football.

“Anything can happen, as we saw with Barcelona and PSG on Wednesday night.”

Even when setbacks occur, boss Brendan Rodgers remains calm and unemotional.

It means the Bhoys now back themselves to get results even when the chips are down.

Sviatchenko said: “It reflects on us in a good way that he is composed and shows this positive arrogance I would say.

“That’s a good phrase as it’s about having respect but knowing that you are good.

“We know that we are good players and that we are a good team because we have shown it in so many games.

“We need to have that at the back of our minds but we will always have the utmost respect for our opponents and we know that they have also been doing good lately.”
