Fans and stars turn out to support Fernando

-

THOUSANDS of fans basked in the sunshine yesterday as they turned out to support former Rangers player Fernando Ricksen.

Fans travelled to Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium to watch Rangers Legends, including Barry Ferguson, Michael Mols and Nacho Novo, take on an England XI.

The game was held to support Ricksen and his Motor Neurone Disease foundation.

The Dutchman – who has an aggressive form of the disease – watched from the dug-out after he was given a huge ovation from the crowd as he came out to meet both teams before kick-off.

England narrowly won the game 3 – 2.

Gers fan Alex Dick scored the last goal for the Rangers side. The supporter was one of three fans who made a £500 donation for a chance to play.

A statement from Ricksen in the match programme said: “I want to thank all the fans for their support. It will be another emotional roller coaster. I am still fighting and will continue to fight.”
