DEREK FERGUSON says Rangers can win the Old Firm derby by exposing what he believes to be the weaknesses in Celtic’s defence.

The former Light Blues midfielder admits to having been very impressed by the Hoops forwards this season as they have swept all before them domestically. Further back, though, not so much. “Apart from Kieran Tierney I think the other three – Jozo Simunovic, Erik Sviatchenko and Mikael Lustig – can be got at,” he said.

“People speak about Rangers not being the best defensively. I don’t think Celtic are either. That’s what I would be looking at.

“Can you get the ball to the players who can do the damage in the final third so you can win the game?

“We have all got our own opinions, but I think that at times, for whatever reason, the Celtic defenders switch off.

“In the last game, Rangers had a chance when the ball broke down the left and Dedryck Boyata couldn’t get back!

“Your first thought is as a defender, and as an attacker, you get back as quick as.

“He ( former Celtic winger Joe Miller, whom Fe r g u s o n w a s speaking alongside) never did it because he was a forward. He just stood about and watched.

“I just see wee things in them and don’t think they are the greatest football players in the world so maybe that’s something you could target.

“But are Rangers going to get enough of the ball and get the likes of Emerson Hyndman and Kenny Miller – who has been fantastic this season – the ball in the key areas?

“For me, that will decide whether they win or lose the game.”

Ferguson’s comments are intriguing because much of the talk ahead of today’s semi- final has centred around the pressure on the Light Blues’ two young defenders, David Bates and Myles Beerman.

However, having himself come through the experience of being thrown into the Old Firm fixture as a 17-year-old, he is confident adrenaline will be their friend.

“Of course Celtic will be looking at two kids in the Rangers defence and wanting to
