DUNDEE UNITED got DavidTempl­eton fit enough to earn a deal at Hamilton Accies. Now he is determined to make the Tangerines regret it.

An overweight and unfit Templeton was given training facilities by United boss Ray McKinnon in February, with a view to signing on at Tannadice in the summer.

However, in March, Accies boss Martin Canning signed the former Hearts and Rangers star until the end of the season.

On what was only his second start, Templeton was a thorn in United’s side as Hamilton claimed a draw in Friday night’s first-leg clash.

But the fit- again danger man hopes to go one better today by popping the Tangerines’ promotion bubble.

He said: “My time at United was good. I managed to get five or six weeks of training in and lose a bit of weight and get myself a bit fitter.

“But the manager here took a chance on me, and hopefully I’m paying him back. But the time I was in at United definitely helped me.

“Hopefully, I can notch a goal in the play-off and they’ll regret getting me fit!”

Templeton’s start in Accies’ 4- 0 drubbing of Dundee last weekend was his first in almost two years.

He’s gutted the campaign is coming to an end just as he is finding his feet.

“That was my first start in 21 months so it has been a long time and I am just glad to be back playing again,” he said.

“It was horrendous being out for so long, not knowing what it was and if I was going to be back. Just being back playing and training every day is enjoyable.
