Faddy wants a club

still there. But I don’t believe that I can go and beat every player with the ball any more!

“I used to try that, but I think I make better decisions now.

“I can get myself to a decent fitness level again – it’s not as if I’m done, I’m knackered and can’t do it anymore.

“I train every day and that brings its fitness.

“I like to help people, I’ve done that as a coach but I’m still learning, too. Maybe I’ll get to experience something a wee bit different.

“I just want to go and make an impact on games.”

McFadden certainly did that with his memorable winner for Scotland against France in Paris in 2007.

He was with Everton at the time and has also had spells with Birmingham City, Sunderland and St Johnstone.

Before taking the player/coach role with Motherwell, McFadden was set to move to MLS cracks, Philadelphia Union.

Having seen everything, done everything and bought the T-shirt in the UK, he is looking beyond for his next move.

With a 17-year playing career under his belt, his continued enthusiasm is clear.

He said: “I’m not specifically looking for a player/coach role but I would take one.

“I want to go and play. I will consider whatever comes up – playing, coaching or even management.

“I would prefer it to be abroad but it doesn’t have to be. I would consider anything.

“If an opportunity to play abroad came up, I’ve made no secret of the fact I would go for it if it was right.

“It would be something new – I’ve played up here, I’ve been down south. I don’t want to just plod along.

“I’ve always wanted to challenge myself. Whether it’s now to play or later as a coach, it’s something I would like to try to broaden my horizons.”
