Early-morning fire panic at Glasgow block of flats

One mum, who didn’t want to be named, said she was confident the cladding used on the building made it difficult for fires to spread.

But she added she had concerns about fire safety in the building.

She said: “There’s no central alarm to alert all residents, only individual alarms and the only stairway is very narrow.

“I always tell my daughter that if a fire happens we have to try to get out the building any way we can.

“if that means jumping out the fourth floor window then that’s what we’d have to do.”

Following the fire Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed that one man, 27, was treated for concussion at the scene but d i d n’t require hospital treatment.

Yesterday, Glasgow Housing Associatio­n, who own the property, said its staff acted swiftly.

A spokespers­on for GHA said: “Our staff took immediate action to keep everyone safe after this minor fire. The fire commander praised the quick response of our concierge team.”
