Cummings signed a three-year deal after Hibs agreed a £1-million-plus fee for their top scorer.

And former Rangers gaffer Warburton believes his first summer capture can do the business in England’s second tier.

“We are delighted to welcome Jason,” said the Reds manager.“He is a player with a very bright future.

“We want young, hungry players and Jason fits that mould perfectly.

“Jason knows there is competition for places and will be keen to show what he can do pre-season.

“It is a challenge for him but I am sure it is one he will be relishing and we believe he will be able to make an impact.”

AIRDRIE have parted company with head coach Mark Wilson “by mutual consent”.

The former Celtic and Dundee United defender exits after a near-eight month spell in charge, having replaced Kevin McBride.

The Diamonds finished third in League One last season, but were unsuccessful in the promotion play-offs.

“After his first taste of management, Mark has decided that he now wishes to expand his coaching horizons across the game,” the club said on their website.

After manager Eddie Wolecki Black suffered a stroke during a game in March, 2015, Under-20s coach Kevin McBride stepped up to work at first-team level until Wilson and new director of football, Gordon Dalziel, joined the club.

The statement continued: “Under difficult circumstances, he managed to put together a challenge that took the club to the play-offs and achieved the objective set for him.”

ST JOHNSTONE have snapped up in-demand Stefan Scougall on a twoyear deal.

Scougall was released by Sheffield United this summer after making 110 appearances for the Blades.

The 24-year-old sparked a flurry of interest from clubs north and south of the border, including Motherwell and Peterborough United.

But the lure of European football saw Saints – who were in the market to replace Danny Swanson – win the race for the attacking midfielder’s signature.

Edinburgh-born Scougall started his career with youth stints at Hibs and Dunfermline before signing a senior deal with Livingston in 2010.

His form earned interest from England and United swooped in 2014.

He enjoyed a run to the FA Cup semi-final with the Bramall Lane side, scoring as they eventually lost 5-3 to Hull City at Wembley.

The player said: “Once I knew Tommy Wright wanted me, it was just a case of trying to get the deal done. I’m delighted to have got it done.”
