GMS’s missed call was best news for Ryan

-

Ryan Christie. A MISSED call confirmed his pal was on his way to Aberdeen.

But Ryan Christie hopes he and Gary Mackay-Steven won’t miss each other with their “killer passes” this season.

After arriving at Pittodrie from Celtic on a season-long loan deal, Christie suspected moves were afoot to land his Bhoys’ team-mate GMS on a permanent deal.

His suspicions were confirmed on Wednesday when Mackay-Steven picked up the phone.

Both players shone in the Dons’ Europa League opener on Thursday.

And as they get more games under their belts, Christie reckons things will only get better.

“I’d heard rumours but then I came in from training on Wednesday to a missed call from him so that gave it away!” he said.

“When I called him back, he was halfway up the road!

“I was chuffed to hear that he’d managed to sort a deal out. He’s a great player – one I’m definitely looking forward to playing with.

“He’s so positive with the ball at his feet, a player that takes defenders on in the final third and looks for that killer pass.

“Hopefully he can be on the end of a few of my killer passes as well!

“For Gary, it’s good he’s come somewhere that, hopefully, he’ll get to play some football again.”

Christie’s stunning opener gave Aberdeen a deserved lead at Pittodrie, only for their opponents, Siroki Brijig, to nab a second-half equaliser as the Dons tired.

Christie admitted to frustration over how the Reds coughed up a goal.

But he believes they will learn from their mistakes in the return leg – and progress to the next round.

“We knew they were a counter-attacking team,” he said.

“That’s how we thought they might nick a goal against us, so it’s frustrating it happened like that because we should have seen it coming.”
