Sinclair urges Rodgers to move for Caulker

-

Steven Caulker. Stability is something which has been very much lacking in Caulker’s career to date.

In addition to his 2011-12 stint at Swansea – in which he helped the newly- promoted side finish 11th in the Premier League – he has been on loan at Yeovil, Bristol City, Southampton, and Liverpool.

Throw in his stints with Cardiff City, QPR and, of course, Spurs, and the defender could be forgiven for not knowing if he was coming or going.

Sinclair admitted: “It is tough. When you go on loan so many times and you’re not settled as a player.

“I know that because I went from club to club, not really settling in

“So I don’t think there would be a better place for Caulks than to come up here and get his football back on track and start really enjoying his football again.

“But it’s about whether or not you still want it. I was out of the game for two- and- a- bit years, and I’m here talking to you guys. “So much has changed since then. “The manager is definitely the type of guy who can help him.

“Caulks still cares and I think he still wants to be playing football.”

Among the potential attractions for the once-capped England internationalist would be the chance to play in European football.

Comfortable winners on what was, at times, a fraught if not traumatic night at Windsor Park, Belfast, the Hoops can look now forward to Wednesday night’s second leg with Linfield with confidence.

Barring an utter disaster, they will advance to face either Dundalk or Rosenborg in the next qualifier.

“To be honest, Fr i d a y w a s quite disappointing,” said Sinclair, who scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win.

“Not because of the trouble, which I didn’t see because I was walking i nto the dressing-room.

“No, because we didn’t play as well as a team. There should have been more goals.

“It was our first competitive game, however, and we won it, so it’s a positive note going into the home game.

“Now we need to make sure we get a win there as well.

“I don’t think they caused us too many problems. It was a game that was one- sided where we controlled it from start to finish.

“But I think it tested us and we need to keep the tempo up when we control games and need to finish them off.

“The aim was to break Linfield down but sometimes they ended up as a back six or seven.”

“But it’s great we’ve got the win. Getting through to the group stages is what’s everyone is fighting for and we move forward.”
