Group blasts Celtic for two-game ground ban
CELTIC FC supporters group The Green Brigade has blasted Celtic and the club’s board in response to their Parkhead ban.
In a statement posted on the fan group’s Twitter account, they accepted full responsibility for the use of pyrotechnics last season to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Celtic’s European Cup win.
The possession or use of pyrotechnic devices in or near football grounds is a criminal offence.
Also, in response to sanctions imposed for a paramilitary banner unveiled at last Wednesday’s Linfield match. UEFA rules prohibit the display of banners of a political or ideological nature.
The Green Brigade said they would not let UEFA or the board dictate their “moral compass”.
The 700-word release also questioned Celtic’s response to the Rangers “title-stripping” controversy and the club’s reaction to racist abuse aimed at Scott Sinclair.
The statement follows Celtic’s decision to close the Green Brigade’s section of Parkhead for the next two games “amid serious safety concerns”.
The group of supporters normally occupy a corner section of the ground and are known for their chanting, card displays and, at times, the use of banners to get across their views, which are not always wholly football-related.
UEFA charged Celtic FC over the display of an “illicit banner” during their Champions League tie against Linfield.
