Board’s backing has been well backed up by their boss

-

I BREATHED a huge sigh of relief when I heard Aberdeen did the business in the Europa League.

They salvaged a bit of national pride by winning in Bosnia & Herzegovina, and now deserve the entire nation’s support in the next round of the Europa League.

However, I did note that two loan players played a big part for the Dons in both the Siroki Brijeg games.

Celtic’s Ryan Christie (left) scored in the first leg before setting up both away goals on Thursday night, one of which was bagged by Birmingham City’s Greg Stewart.

In one sense, there’s a risk in that sort of arrangement.

What if Brendan Rodgers decides he wants Christie back, for instance?

But in another, it speaks volumes about the job that Derek McInnes has done.

He has achieved so much on the budget he has that, in order to make further improvements, he needed players who would ordinarily be beyond his price range.

Del has squeezed the maximum out of what he has had at Aberdeen.

Now the board have backed him with more cash, I’d back him to keep making the most of it.
