Newlyweds start married life in cells after ‘fall-out’

-

Audrey Stevenson and Scott Allan will stand trial in October. second charge of assaulting Veronica Bannan by butting her in the face to her injury.

Miss Bannan, who runs the Dolphin Snack Bar in Mains Road, Linlithgow, allegedly suffered a broken tooth during the incident.

They were released under special bail conditions which prevent Allan, 54, from going back to the home he shares with his new bride.

Stevenson is prohibited from approaching, contacting or being in the company of her friend Miss Bannan. The pair are due to return to court to stand trial on October 16.

Stevenson’s lawyer, Kate Fabian, told the court the couple had been in a relationship for two-and-a-half years and had been living together at an address in Foreshore Way, Bo’ness.

She said: “Both parties wish to continue the relationship.

“There seems to have been a misunderstanding with regard to Mr Allan speaking to another individual and that’s caused the couple to fall out.

“Cer tainly Miss Stevenson doesn’t wish any special conditions of bail. She wishes to continue with the relationship and deal with any special issues they have.

“The allegation is they both behaved in an inappropriate way towards each other. She wishes the couple to work through these issues.”

Sheriff Martin Edington told the couple’s lawyers he was not willing to allow them to return to the same house in case “recriminations broke out”.

He said: “This was arguably the ruination of one of the biggest days of their lives and you’re telling me no one’s going to harbour any ill feeling.

“I’m not saying they shouldn’t be able to contact each other but not at the same address.”

Allan’s lawyer, Sonia Cheema, suggested Allan could stay with his son in Kirk Place, Bo’ness, in the meantime.

Sheriff Edington warned the accused that if they breached the special bail conditions they could end up back in custody.

He told them: “You’ll be able to speak to each other and you’ll be able to meet at the address where Mr Allan is residing.

“I’m just not prepared to allow you to go to the same address today.”
