GEORGE IS ON A WARRIORS MISSION

- By David Kelso SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

George Horne has revealed his mission to be a shoe-in for Glasgow when the superstars are away.

And the scrum-half certainly staked a massive claim for the No. 9 jersey with a brilliant display to spur the Warriors on to Pro14 glory against the Southern Kings on Friday night.

Now he wants to occupy the starting berth for the next batch of league matches with Ali Price and Henry Pyrgos on autumn Test duty for Scotland.

Horne, younger brother of Glasgow playmaker Peter, declared: “It felt great to get 80 minutes under my belt on my first competitive start.

“I was shattered near the end – but I loved every minute.

“Young guys like me are being given huge responsibility over the next few weeks.

“We want to make sure we stay at the top of our group – and keep our unbeaten record.”

Horne, man of the match in the 43-13 bonus-point romp, added: “I’d like to think I have laid down a bit of a marker.

“The international guys have put us in a great place with their performances in the first six Pro14 games.

“So now is the chance for the rest of us to step up.

“We want to make sure there are no excuses for falling off during the Test period – even if we are without more than a full team of players.”
