What became of the man who gave Al Capone his scars?

-

Al “Scarface” Capone was one of the most feared gangsters of all time.

So I’d like to know who gave him the scar that gave him his nickname.

I’ll bet things didn’t turn out well for whoever it was! – J.

Alphonse Gabriel Capone was an American mobster who attained notoriety during the Prohibition era as the co-founder and boss of the Chicago Outfit.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he joined a notorious street gang led by Johnny Torrio.

Around 1920, Torrio and Capone went to Chicago where they joined the Colosimo mob.

In 1925, Torrio, who had “deposed” Big Jim Colosimo as boss, was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt himself. He retired, handing control over to Capone.

Capone quickly built a fearsome reputation as he took control of the city’s south side.

So fearsome was Capone, that few people mentioned his Scarface nickname, but when reporters were brave enough to ask, he would claim the three scars on his face were war wounds, inflicted by a German machine gun.

That as a lie, because, in 1917, while working as a bouncer, Capone inadvertently insulted a woman and was slashed by her brother, Frank Gallucio.

Things didn’t turn out quite as you would think for Gallucio as, after Capone rose to power, he didn’t take vengeance on him and even occasionally employed Gallucio as his bodyguard.
