Three men have died in a weekend of tragedy on Scotland’s roads.

Two died when their car left the M9 motorway early yesterday morning. The grey Toyota Hilux vehicle crashed at 6.50am around one mile east of the Bannockburn junction.

Two men were found to be dead at the scene and a third man was taken to Forth Valley Hospital with what police described as “minor injuries”.

Junctions 8 and 9 were closed for around 10 hours as police accident investigators examined the scene.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man died on Friday evening when his black Subaru Forester was involved in a collision with a gold Volkswagon Golf around 4.45pm on the B9015 at Orton, Moray.

His male passenger, 27, suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The 36-year-old driver of the other car and his 45-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

They are being treated at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

Members of the motocross fraternity have been laying wreaths and floral tributes at the scene.

Sergeant Scott Deans of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts at this sad time are with the families of those involved in this collision.”
