Contamination hits children’s hospital
Three seriously ill children have become infected in cancer wards at Scotland’s showpiece hospital after bacteria was discovered in the water supply.
There has been no hot water in the Schiehallion Unit in Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children for at least two weeks after the contamination was discovered.
Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board confirmed three children are currently receiving treatment for infections which may be linked to the bacteria found in the water supply. Tests are ongoing to confirm if they are linked.
Dr Teresa Inkster, infection control doctor, said none of the three patients are giving any cause for concern as a consequence of their infection.
