“If I don’t succeed as an athlete and have the profile to then be creative with my time and resources, I can’t do all that. “Hopefully at the heart of smashing records, people do take confidence and inspiratio­n from that, but for me that’s not enough, it has to be a bit more direct.”

Music therapy helps those who find it difficult to express themselves in words, such as those with autism or dementia, to communicat­e.

Therapists use singing, musical instrument­s, dance and listening to music as a type of treatment.

Studies have shown it can help physically rehabilita­te, motivate and provide emotional support.
