TV star’s sporting ambition

-

Television presenter Matt Baker has revealed he was set for a career in sport until he was diagnosed with anaemia as a teenager.

The One Show and Countryfile star, 40, a father of two, was a junior gymnastics champion and tipped for the top until it was discovered he had the blood condition at the age of 14.

“It was the intensity of the training that was the issue,” he said.

“I trained six days a week to maintain that level.

“The advice at that age was to cut back training so my body could cope.

“However, that meant I wouldn’t have been as successful so I just packed it in.”
