Pay to park row at isles airports
A row has broken out over Scotland’s biggest regional airports operator introducing parking charges at three island terminals.
The Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) plan will see motorists charged £3 if they stay over an hour.
The airports affected are Sumburgh, which serves the Shetland Islands, Kirkwall on Orkney and Stornoway airport in the Western Isles.
Lib Dem MSP Tavish Scott said: “I deplore this decision and will campaign to stop the introduction of a tax on islanders travelling.”
HIAL managing director Inglis Lyon said: “The new parking charges will raise revenue that will be reinvested in maintaining and continuously developing the airports.”
