CAN YOU DO ME A

-

My late mother was from Glasgow, born and bred. Since her death over 20 years ago, I have been exploring the genealogy of her family.

As a child you listen to your parents telling you of their lives and so on with open ears – in one and out the other. I regret that now.

My grandmother (whom I had never met) was a music hall artiste in a musical troupe, as was my mother as a child with her half-sister.

I have a photo of the troupe, above, but unfortunately little information about it.

All I know is that it toured village halls throughout Scotland.

My grandma was a singer who went by her stage name Lena Russell.

She was also a dancer, as was my mother Margaret Pearl Poole and my mum’s half-sister Winnifred.

My grandmother’s real name was Margaret Collins, nee Mccluskey, and she was one of 14 children, all born in Glasgow.

Her parents were Daniel Mcluskey and Annie Rooney. Annie’s parents were Thomas W. Rooney and Elizabeth Mclaughlin.

My mother’s father Herbert Poole was also a music hall artiste – and is presumably someone in the photo!

To find out any info about my whole family would be the greatest gift I could ever have.

There has to be relatives in Glasgow and surrounding areas that recognise this photo or information. There are also links with Newcastle-upon-tyne, Freemantle in Australia and Canada.

If there are any readers with any information, I would be eternally grateful.

My bucket list is short – to find out as much as I can about my family.
