The world’s richest footballer still waiting to make his debut!

He was – B.B.’S mother was a cousin of Bukka White.

Born Booker T. Washington White, he first recorded for RCA Victor in 1930.

Hats Off To (Roy) Harper, on Led Zeppelin’s 1970 album, III, was based in large part on White’s Shake ’Em on Down.

I’ll be honest, we were in a pub at the time, but my pal tells me that the richest footballer in the world isn’t Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but a Leicester player! Surely he must have had too many “sherbets”? – S.

He is telling the truth, and he isn’t even a first-team player, he’s a reserve!

Faiq Bolkiah, nephew of the fabulously wealthy Sultan of Brunei, is estimated to be worth £14 billion.

In stark contrast, his clubmate Jamie Vardy once earned just £30 a week playing for non-league Stocksbridge Park Steels FC.

Educated at Bradfield College in Berkshire, Bolkiah might have no real need to graft for a living given his family’s vast fortunes.

But the 19-year-old has nonetheless set out to follow Vardy’s example and carve out a career in the beautiful game. After starring as a youth for AFC Newbury, Bolkiah joined English Premier League club Southampton’s renowned academy set-up, before signing a two-year youth contract with London giants Chelsea.

After a trial spell with Arsenal, he signed a three-year professional deal with Leicester in March 2016 – just weeks before his new employers stunned the football world by becoming champions at odds of 5000-1.

Although the winger is yet to make his first-team debut, he has a clutch of appearances for the Brunei national team under his belt.

Real Madrid striker Ronaldo’s fortune is estimated at around £200-250m. The Portuguese earns around £365,000 a week playing for the Spanish giants.

Lionel Messi, whom many fans now regard as the greatest footballer of all time, is believed to have a net worth of £200-230m.
