Main man can help the fans forget Moult
Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson believes striker Curtis Main can stop their supporters pining for Louis Moult.
The Steelmen take on Celtic at home today – the side they faced in the League Cup final.
Whenever there’s a blip in Motherwell’s form, the loss of prolific striker Moult is often mentioned.
Robinson feels that’s unfair on the rest of his squad.
He said: “People said we only got to the cup final because of Louis Moult as well but I can assure you we didn’t.
“A lot of players created chances for him and scored goals on the way.
“We proved we weren’t overly reliant on him and Curtis Main has now come in and done the same job for us.
“I believe there’s more to come from Curtis. It’s important to hit the ground running as a striker and he has done.
“Considering we don’t pay any money for anyone, picking up free transfers for guys who score goals is the hardest bit of the game.
“I tried to sign him when I was at Oldham and I heard from a lot of people about his hunger and desire in training.
“He’s a winner, he wants to push himself and if you have that you have a chance.
“It doesn’t always work out but a lot of the boys we bring in have the right character and the right drive.”
Motherwell had a run of three games in a row against Celtic last year, one of them being the cup final.
Robinson believes that hat- trick of matches created a short setback for his team.
He said: “The three games took their toll on us.
“Celtic have a lot of possession of the ball and that does wear you down. It’s funny we picked up all our injuries after those games so they took a significant toll.
“Where are we now? We’re a team who’ll compete against them.
“We’ ve won games by being competitive, being aggressive and in people’s faces and playing at a tempo.
“We can switch formations. We’ve got a style of play and we play to it.”
