Andy aims to shake off any

Andy Rose has no regrets about leaving America’s MLS and finding himself in the rough and tumble of the SPFL Premiership.

The Motherwell midfielder gets another chance to pit his wits against Celtic at Fir Park this afternoon, and believes the advice of a former Dundee and Everton star helped him reach this level.

You might think Rose would be sick of the sight of the Hoops, after they beat the Steelmen three times in a week at the end of last year.

One of those games saw a penalty awarded against him two minutes from time and another was the League Cup Final.

But Rose can’ t get enough of passion-filled matches and got a taste for them in the unlikely setting of ‘soccer’ in the USA.

He said: “I’ve probably had quite a different path to getting here than most.

“When I was 18, I decided to go out to the States to do a scholarship programme. I then found myself with an opportunity to play in MLS.

“I spent four years there, learned an awful lot and played alongside some world-class players.

“To make a long career in this game you need to learn from every single situation, try to learn from every manager and keep a real open mind.

“I’m playing with some great players here at Motherwell and I really appreciate the type of changing-room we have.

“I think we have some players who are going to go on to do big things in the game.”

Looking back, Rose is delighted he started out in Seattle – both for the big- game
