atmosphere and the chance to meet former Scotland midfielder, Jimmy Gabriel.

The Australian-born player went on: “I was really fortunate with my experience in the MLS, because I was in Seattle for four years.

“Not everyone in this country will be aware of it, but the atmosphere in the stadium there is fantastic.

“We were drawing 45-50,000 fans every week and there was a really passionate fanbase.

“The one thing I’ve been very impressed with in Scotland is the passion of the fans.

“You can tell how much it means to them, and you have that responsibility when you step on the pitch.

“You understand you’re playing for them. But in some cities in the States, it’s not quite there as regards the atmosphere.

“I was fortunate that Seattle is so passionate.

“I was also fortunate to spend some time with Jimmy Gabriel.

“He’s a fantastic guy and a big reason why the Sounders franchise is where it is today.

“What he was able to do quite a few years ago was tremendous.

“Former England player Alan Hinton is another one who did a lot. They were great players in their day and used their experience to help make it a better place.

“Jimmy would come out to training every two or three weeks and would be at most of the home matches.

“With us both coming from the UK, we hit it off instantly.

“In my early years as a professional, he was someone, along with Alan Hinton, that I could lean on for wise words of wisdom.”

Motherwell were just a couple of minutes from ending Celtic’s unbeaten domestic record, so it was hard to take.

He said: “That night was just absolute frustration. We thought about that game long enough for a few days afterwards.

“But it’s been a long time and the focus is now on what we do this week.

“The defeat at Hamilton last weekend was unfortunate, and quite uncharacteristic of what we have been about this season.

“Our mindset now is to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible. We are back in front of our fans and very excited to play against Celtic.”
