Boot boys won’t stop Hibs

John Mcginn reckons Hibs should take their opponents’ efforts to kick them off the park as a compliment.

Hibees’ boss Neil Lennon accused St Johnstone boot boy Blair Alston of endangering star man Mcginn’s wellbeing during Friday night’s battling draw at Mcdiarmid Park.

Alston was booked for a wild, late lunge on the Scotland squad man, which could easily have warranted a red card.

To level- headed Mcginn’s credit, he compared the Saints’ midfielder’s challenge to a much milder one he threw in himself minutes later.

Then he insisted other teams’ physical approach against Hibs, who had goalkeeper Ofir Marciano sent off for handling the ball outside his area, was proof that they were running scared.

“I was breaking away at the time and maybe Blair’s challenge was a bit high. And he had another one just after that,” said Mcginn.

“But to be fair I did much the same thing five minutes later.

“I haven’t seen it back but I thought I was away. It was a bit annoying thinking we got a guy sent off when he wasn’t trying to handle it. I know it is the rules.

“But with the tackle on me there was no intent to play the ball and it was just a yellow card.

“We just have to get on with it.

“We have a really good squad so naturally teams are going to try to make it difficult for us.

“We should probably take it as a compliment if people are trying to stop us playing. They know we can hurt them.
