By George Pc Dixon can do it again

- By Reg Moore SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

There seemed to be no fluke about Pc Dixon’s Hexham victory last Thursday over Micky Hammond’s Cornerstone at 33/1.

Despite the fact Victor Thompson’s five-year-old was rated 87 – the 2/5 favourite was 134 – there was three-quarters-of-a-length between them.

Appearing again so quickly would also raise a doubt or two normally, but they crept round in the heavy ground until the straight.

Cornerstone had time to get by, but Pc Dixon stayed on doggedly to win. He has good prospects in Carlisle’s opener today.

If Pc Dixon runs well in the opening race, local trainer Lisa Harrison will be encouraged about the chance of Instingtive later on.

The seven-year-old scrapes in off bottom weight and is bidding for a hattrick, after victories at today’s venue and at Ayr.

The Scorpion gelding, who loves the heavy ground, is progressing for his excellent trainer and has Ross Chapman taking off 3lb.

Richard Johnson should be on the mark in the novice hurdle with Tim Vaughan’s Point Of Principle.

His victory in a Class 2 event at Ascot takes him on to a mark of 136, normally enough to win one of these with something to spare.
