Hales to replace disgraced warner

-

England batsman Alex Hales has been signed as a replacement for disgraced Australia vice-captain David Warner by Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Nottinghamshire Outlaws opener has been drafted in after Warner, who was set to captain the franchise, resigned and was then banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India after admitting his part in ball-tampering against South Africa. Warner was subsequently banned for a year by Cricket Australia and has now been replaced in the IPL by Hales.

The Sunrisers confirmed the signing of Hales on their Twitter account, with the 28-year-old now missing at least two Royal London One-day Cup matches for the Outlaws.

Hales recently signed a twoyear deal to play white ball cricket only for Notts with a clause releasing him to take up an offer from the IPL.

Hales said: “I’m excited to be given this opportunity by the Sunrisers to play in arguably the biggest domestic tournament in the world.

“I wish to thank Notts for their support. While it’s disappointing to miss matches for Outlaws, when I return to England I will be match hardened and ready to give my all to their cause.”

Notts’ director of cricket Mick Newell added: “Although Alex missed out in the IPL auction, we knew there was a chance he could be signed up as a replacement.”
