Formartine bounce back to lift trophy

-

Formartine utd 2 Fraserburgh 1

In the Highland League Cup Final, Formartine United deservedly won their second trophy of the season.

United manager Paul Lawson said: “I am absolutely delighted and so proud of the players. Credit goes to them for losing a goal so early on, but coming back to put on an excellent performance.

“I am delighted to have claimed two trophies in my first season.” The Broch took the lead in two minutes when Johnny Crawford fouled Jamie Beagrie and Gary Harris rolled the penalty home.

Two minutes from the break, it was all square. Tait punched out a Stuart Anderson cross, but it broke to experienced defender Craig Mckeown to fire home. On 51 minutes, the Pitmedden side were in front as Scott Barbour played in Garry Wood and he took a touch before firing home.

Fraserburgh responded, but, when presented with the opportunity, both Willie West and Jamie Beagrie fired shots over.

Fraserburgh’s disappointing afternoon was completed by a late red card for Marc Dickson.

Brora 3 turriff united 2

Adam Cross wasted no time in beating Joe Malin to put the visitors in front.

Kyle Macleod drew Brora level with a fine left-footed finish, and the Cattachs took the lead thanks to that man Macleod once more. Brora opened up a two-goal advantage early in the second half when Colin Williamson nodded past Greig Sim from a corner.

Nicholas Wozniak pulled a goal back for Turriff.

BUCKIE thistle 1 Forres 1

There was little between the two teams in the first half, but Forres were able to force their way in front in the 38th minute when a near-post corner was flicked on and eventually fell to Graham Fraser to turn it home.

The Jags responded early in the second half, Stevie Ross placing the ball beyond Stuart Knight. Buckie had the chance to win the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Kai Ross slipped in his run up to take the spot-kick and Knight got down to save.

CLACHNACUDDIN 6 Huntly 3

Huntly took the lead when Gary Mcgowan squared for Michael Ewen to score.

Then a long throw from Tom Andrews was lashed home from the edge of the box by Ross Still.

The Tigers’ third goal was a stunner, Neale Davidson hitting a dipping effort in at the far post.

However, a needless foul in the penalty area by Michael Clark gifted Clach a way back into the game, Michael Finnis scoring from the spot.

It was 3-2 when Daniel Maclennan ran unchallenged from the halfway line.

A minute after the turnaround, Ali Stark’s cross found Fraser Robertson unmarked and he headed home the leveller. Martin Macdonald put Clach in front after a goalmouth scramble, then Fraser Robertson fired home a free-kick from 18 yards.

Another free kick, this time from Jordan Andrew found Ryan Mackintosh, who netted from close range to round off an incredible victory.

Fort william 2 Cove 12

Mitch Megginson opened the scoring with barely a minute gone, but an own goal by Eric Watson had Fort back on level terms. Watson made amends by netting Cove’s second, before Daniel Park tapped in No. 3.

A long ball from Darryn Kelly allowed Paul Mcmanus to chip home his first of the afternoon and, with 41 minutes gone, he crashed his second high into the net from 18 yards for 5-1.

Megginson netted in the first minute of the second half before Paul Mcmanus added his third and fourth with simple finishes. Fort pulled one back through John Treasurer from a penalty, but sub Johnny Smith netted with two headers to take Cove into double figures. Late strikes from Eric Watson and Ryan Stott completed the rout.

strathspey 3 lossiemouth 2

Lossie took the lead when Scott Dunn latched on to a Ross Archibald header and lashed the ball home from the edge of the box with 16 minutes played. James Mcshane made it even 20 minutes later when he was on hand to force the ball over the line.

The Coasters were back in front when Ross Archibald hit a shot with the outside of his foot from 18 yards.

In a dramatic late twist to the game, James Mcshane drove the ball in off the underside of the bar to make it 2-2. In time added, Lossie player-manager Iain Macrae saw red for foul and abusive language. There was further drama deep into injury time as Strathspey won a penalty, duly converted by Mcshane.

WICK 2 Deveronvale 0

It took less than a minute for Wick to take the lead, Gordon Macnab tapping in from close range.

Ross Allan’s rasping drive came close to doubling their lead. Wick had two glorious opportunities in the 75th minute, Steven Anderson cracking the post from 20 yards before Richard Macadie blazed the rebound over.

Ten minutes from time, Wick’s Davie Allan appeared to handle the ball down into the path of Danny Mackay, who blasted home from six yards.

The goal stood despite appeals from the Deveronvale players, and Michael Dunn received a straight red card for his dissent.
