Ally Mccoist scored twice and Jonas Thern (above) completed the scoring for the Light Blues.
Wim Jansen’s Celtic fought out a 0-0 draw with Hearts.
Steve Mcmanaman scored a last-minute winner as Liverpool beat Barnsley 3-2.
The Yorkshire side finished the match with eight men after having Darren Barnard, Chris Morgan and Martin Bullock all red-carded.

Struggling Celtic stopped Aberdeen pulling away at the top of the Premier Division by holding them to a 2-2 draw at Parkhead. Ronnie Glavin and Johannes Edvaldsson scored for the Hoops, with Duncan Davidson and Dom Sullivan (above) getting the Dons goals.
Derek Johnstone earned Rangers a point in a 1-1 draw with St Mirren after equalising Frank Mcgarvey’s opener.
Bristol City beat Newcastle 3-1, with goals from Tom Ritchie, Norman Hunter and a Geoff Nulty own-goal.

Former Queen’s Park player Tommy Herron made his Manchester United debut in a 0-0 draw with Preston at Old Trafford.
Matt Busby’s side had still to win a league match since the Munich disaster. Johnny Coyle hit a hattrick for Clyde as they beat Motherwell 3-2 in the Scottish Cup semi-final. Pat Quinn and Ian St John (above) scored for the Steelmen.
The other last-four tie was a 2-2 draw between Rangers and Hibs.
