Six Gun set to serenade the punters

- By Reg Moore SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Today’s opening maiden hurdle at Plumpton is a very poor affair.

That could clear the way for Suzi Best’s Six Gun Serenade to get off the mark.

He last ran over courseand-distance two weeks ago when fifth, beaten nine lengths by Pull Together, when getting a little outpaced before staying on.

Of today’s rivals, Mr Jack finished a neck in front of the selection, and Spice Boat was pulled up. But Six Gun Serenade has more potential. He was a point winner in Ireland three years ago, before injury intervened, and had the 148-rated Jury Duty, two lengths back in third that day.

Top weight may not stop Midnight Maestro returning to the winner’s enclosure, in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle, for Alan King.

The son of Midnight Legend won off 120 at Stratford in today’s grade on soft ground last March. He has dropped to that mark again today.

A repeat of his sevenlength sixth to stable-mate Elgin at Ascot in November would probably be good enough against some frustrating rivals. Show’s Over has dropped to a feasible mark in another below-par event – the twomile handicap chase – after a good second at Taunton last time.

He was a length behind Royal Act on heavy and will prefer today’s better ground, having won off 1lb higher at Ludlow 17 months ago.
