The Old Firm fact file . . .

Here we look back at the previous five times the old Firm have met in a Scottish Cup semi-final.

RANGERS 1 CELTIC 0

(March 31, 1992)

Rangers found themselves reduced to 10 men at a sodden Hampden after just six minutes when left-back Davie Robertson was dismissed for a crude body check on Joe Miller.

However, the Parkhead side could not make their numerical advantage count and the Light Blues snatched victory, thanks to Ally Mccoist’s winner on the stroke of half-time.

(April 7, 1996)

Rangers were well on their way to an eighth straight league title win when they met Tommy Burns’ Celtic.

Goals from Mccoist, with a typical close-range finish, and Brian Laudrup, after a one-two with Gordon Durie, had the Ibrox men 2-0 up.

Pierre van Hooijdonk netted for the Hoops before Simon Donnelly missed two late chances.

(April 5, 1998)

With Hampden being renovated, Celtic won the right to stage the semi-final match on the toss of a coin.

In familiar surroundings, the Hoops dominated for long spells but found Rangers just too strong again. Mccoist headed in the opener in the 75th minute before German midfielder Jorg Albertz wrapped up the victory late on with a superb solo goal, Craig Burley grabbing Celtic’s consolation.

RANGERS 2 CELTIC 2

(Rangers won 5-4 on penalties)

(April 17, 2016)

Rangers were on their way back to the top flight following the club’s well-documented financial implosion when they faced up to Ronny Deila’s Hoops side, on their way to their fifth successive title.

A thrilling encounter ended 2-2 after goals from Rangers’ Kenny Miller and Barrie Mckay were cancelled out by Erik Sviatchenko and Tom Rogic. The dramatic penalty shoot-out saw Rangers emerge winners after Rogic ballooned his spot-kick over the bar.
